Long Story Short...

Dystopias are defined as "an imaginary place where people are unhappy and usually afraid because they are not treated fairly" (Merriam-Webster online dictionary).

Dystopian works have emerged in response to advances in modern technology, science, and political ideology. With these ever-developing categories that define the way we live our lives, our definition of humanity becomes obscure. Literary and cinematic works explore this question further and illustrate near-future worlds where humanity, free will, and the merit of life are pushed to and beyond their definitions.
